THE JAZZ MESSAGE CELEBRATING ART BLAKEY FEAT. JAVON JACKSON, EDDIE HENDERSON, STEVE TURRE, BENNY GREEN, BUSTER WILLIAMS, LEWIS NASH (SUN)
From Art Blakey's legendary original ensemble, we meet the saxophonist Javon Jackson and trumpeter Eddie Henderson, pianist Benny Green. In addition, the trombonist Steve Turre who has been voted the best trombonist five times by Down Beat readers; Buster Williams who among others was the bass player in Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi Sextet and in the Ron Carter Quartet, drummer Lewis Nash, who was picked up by Betty Carter's band as a 22 year old and subsequently played with almost everyone and everything, Sonny Rollins, Willie Nelson, and Diana Krall.
So many renowned jazz musicians on stage at the same time is a luxury. Their initiated tribute to the king of hard bop can’t be anything other than a jazz fest of seldom seen proportions.
