Bilal (SAT)
Soul & jazz vocalist Bilal Oliver, better known as Bilal, has long been considered the king of neo soul D'angelo’s heir. Over the past decade he has worked out his own distinctive personality with expressions strongly influenced by improvisation and phrasing commonly associated with jazz.
Bilal is close to an icon within modern soul music, but today he describes his music as more of a fusion of funk, rock and jazz. As a classically schooled vocalist, trained opera in seven languages and with a whole new way of looking at the soul, he became renowned and especially hailed as being unique. After the release of his debut album "1st Born Second" which set the standard for the new soul music, it took nine years for an official second album to follow, and it is with this he will take his place at Solliden.
Topical with "Airtight Revenge" and a world tour that look quite respectable, we present Bilal as one of our most interesting artists in jazz and soul today.
